A native of Houston, Texas, Dr. Nancy Binford received undergraduate degrees from Rice University in History and French. After college, while pursuing a career in modern dance, Dr. Binford also worked at MD Anderson in the Texas Medical Center writing grants for medical research. Based on the encouragement of coworkers at MD Anderson, Dr. Binford decided to apply to medical school. She then attended UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where she received her medical training as well as her training in obstetrics and gynecology as a resident physician.

Since beginning her medical practice in 1998, Dr. Binford has enjoyed caring for the gynecologic needs of women in every stage of their life including the teen years, women’s reproductive years, and during women’s transition into menopause. In addition to offering wellness care, she is interested in the evaluation and treatment of diseases of the reproductive organs as well as infertility. Dr. Binford is also proud to offer in-office sonography which is necessary for the evaluation of many gynecologic problems.

Dr. Binford also continues to delight in the miracle of new life and caring for women during their pregnancies. Through her excellent medical training and experience as well as her attention to detail and thorough approach, Dr. Binford has become known for her expertise in the care of women with high risk pregnancies. She routinely cares for women of advanced maternal age, women carrying twins or triplets, women with histories of infertility or previous pregnancy loss, and women with preexisting medical conditions needing careful management during pregnancy.

In addition to her knowledge, experience, and expertise as a physician, Dr. Binford is well-known for her excellence at the bedside. She is known for her desire to listen and hear the concerns of her patients, her abilities in communicating to patients and their families in thorough and effective ways, and for her compassion in helping patients who are ill and in distress. It is Dr. Binford’s heartfelt commitment to provide the utmost in exceptional and compassionate medical care for all her patients.

While in residency, Dr. Binford and her spouse brought a son and daughter into the world. Family time with her husband and children brings Dr. Binford her biggest joy. She and her family enjoy traveling together, particularly to the mountains of west Texas and the cool waters of the Frio River in central Texas. Otherwise, in her spare time, Dr. Binford enjoys walks with her dogs, gardening, and reading.

Susie Cobb is a physician assistant (PA-C) nationally certified by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants. Susie graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and then earned her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

A high school field trip to observe surgery at Baylor College of Medicine was the event that led Susie to realize medicine was the field she wanted to pursue. She had a fascination with the human body and its workings, and she felt called to serve people in their times of illness and difficulty. (Little did she know that field trip would lead her to return to Baylor College of Medicine as a student later!)

While in college at UT, Susie determined that the role of physician assistant was the perfect fit for her career goals. As a PA student, she was trained according to the medical model with education in all specialties in medicine. This broad scope in her educational background allowed Susie to follow her interests in health care at different times in her career in Austin that has now spanned over two decades.

After working in obstetrics and gynecology for twelve years (including five years of work with Dr. Nancy Binford), Susie accepted a position in internal medicine, and for seven years, she enjoyed addressing patients’ concerns for all areas of their health in addition to continuing to see women for their gynecologic needs. An opportunity then arose in psychiatry, and for the next three years, Susie followed her interest of helping patients with their mental health needs including during pregnancy and the postpartum time frame. Susie felt called to return to her roots in women’s health, and since returning to Balcones ObGyn, it is evident that her experience in adult primary care and in mental health care contribute greatly to her philosophy of attending to women’s needs with a holistic approach.

Susie considers it a great privilege to walk with women in all ages and stages in their lives. She is driven by her belief that taking the time to listen and learn about women’s lives and concerns is the basis for a trusting patient-provider relationship, and it is this relationship that will guide the steps needed to achieve wellness in mind and body.

Susie is proud to be a part of Balcones ObGyn working with Dr. Nancy Binford and her exceptional staff who have the shared vision of providing the utmost in compassionate medical care to women.

Outside of the office, Susie enjoys spending time with her family including her two sons, hiking in the greenbelt, camping, traveling, playing flute and handbells, playing piccolo with the UT Longhorn Alumni Band, and visiting family in her native Houston.
